Attala County native Miranda Burchfield is joining The Star-Herald as a staff writer.
A suma cum laude graduate of Holmes Community College, she earned an Associate of Arts degree in business administration and was an executive officer of the Kappa Alpha chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society.
While a student at HCC, she was a member of the campus journalism team and was the editor of the yearbook. She received the 2015 HCC yearbook award as well as the 2016 HCC newspaper and creative writing awards for excellent work.
Pieces of her creative writing won awards in both 2015 and 2016 at the HCC creative writing competition and at the Mississippi Community College Creative Writing Association Conference.
In 2016 she attended the O. C. McDavid Journalism Conference.
Upon graduating from HCC, she attended Mississippi State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and was a member of the Gamma Nu chapter of the Phi Alpha Theta honor society for historians.
While a student at MSU, she was awarded the A. W. Garner Scholarship from the College of Arts and Sciences. She graduated cum laude. Since 2017, she has been the volunteer chair of the annual photography show at the Central Mississippi Exhibit Hall.
Prior to joining The Star-Herald, she was employed as the social media and marketing coordinator at Campus Bookstore - Starkville.
