Kosciusko High School announced the appointment of Jesse Yates as the new Band Director for the Big Red Band. A Kosciusko native and an alum of Kosciusko High School, Yates brings with him a wealth of experience and excitement for his return to KHS.
During his formative years at Kosciusko High School, Yates served as the Big Red Drum Major, a role that laid the foundation for his journey in the world of music. He furthered his education at Mississippi State University, earning his bachelor's degree and honing his skills as a musician and educator.
Throughout his career, Yates has held prominent leadership positions at various educational institutions, including Ethel High School, Oak Hill Academy, Starkville Academy, Louisville High School, and his alma mater, Kosciusko High School. Notably, under his direction, the Kosciusko High School band clinched the prestigious MHSAA 4A State Marching Championship in 2016.
Since 2018, Yates has served as the Band Director at East Webster, where he has guided the band to three MHSAA 2A State Marching Championships. His dedication also garnered him recognition as a member of Phi Beta Mu and as the president of the Northeast Mississippi Band Directors Association.
In addition to his professional accolades, Yates has also served as president of the MPSA Band Directors Association for two terms.
Yates is supported in his endeavors by his family, including his wife, Christy Price Yates, and their four sons, Jesse Yates III, Joshua Yates, Jace Yates, and Levi Brown.
