Dr. Clay Quarterman, a career missionary for 42 years with Mission to the World (MTW), spoke to the Rotary Club of Kosciusko on September 11 about his experiences in Ukraine. Quarterman, who planted churches in Portugal and Ukraine, said that the current conflict in Ukraine is a concerning event.
The luncheon, hosted by the Kosciusko Rotary Club with Hugh Potts inviting the speaker, provided an opportunity for attendees to gain insights into Quarterman's remarkable journey and his advocacy for Ukraine in its ongoing struggle against Russia.
Dr. Clay Quarterman's missionary work began in Portugal but when the Iron Curtain came down, Quarterman, along with his wife Darlene, embarked on a mission to Ukraine, an opportunity he described as "amazing at the time."
Quarterman noted that he and his team planted 15 churches and established humanitarian and educational institutions in Ukraine. He also served as the founding president of the Evangelical Reformed Seminary of Ukraine (ERSU), where he taught practical theology for 20 years.
Reflecting on his experiences, Quarterman emphasized the importance of standing up against injustice and aggression, particularly in the context of the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. "There is a time for peace and a time for war," Quarterman said. "It is important to stand against Putin's Russian Imperialism, especially when it is in defense."
He went on to encourage those in attendance to support Ukraine through various means, including prayer, raising awareness, and contributing to charities like "Crates for Ukraine." He stressed the importance of combating misinformation and engaging with political leaders to ensure that Ukraine receives the support it desperately needs.
As Dr. Clay Quarterman continues to advocate for Ukraine, its people, and Biblical teachings.
