On Wednesday, November 2, Melissa Simpson and Ann Breedlove from the Attala County Library entertained some of the residents of the Martha Jo Leslie Nursing Center.
This Coffee Break, every first Wednesday in the month at 10 a.m. is sponsored by the local VFW Auxiliary, headed up by Jackie Truelove. They supply doughnuts for this activity. Some VFW members come to help. The Attala County Veterans Service Officer, Mervin Foster, faithfully attends.
Melissa and Ann were joined by two of the residents who voluntarily sang hymns with them.
After the entertainment part of the program, Melissa and Ann were given information about some of the things taking place in the VFW, the VFW Auxiliary, and the American Legion. Foster reported on a seminar that he and Janie Wallace attended in October, in which new benefits for veterans were discussed. He also stated that there are new VA forms available and that if filled out by a veteran or his widow, might entitle him or her to receive added benefits that were not previously available.
David White discussed plans for the Aisle of Honor on Friday, Nov. 11, at Parkway Cemetery. Preparation for placing the flagpoles was made Nov. 10 and members of the VFW, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion and others will meet at the cemetery on Nov. 11 at 6 a.m. The program begins at 11. The public is invited to attend. Featured speaker will be Sheri Roebuck.
At the next meeting of the VFW, Thanksgiving Day will be celebrated by having a Thanksgiving supper on November 10. The American Legion meeting and drawing will be on Nov. 17.
