Jason and Danielle Townsend made a stop in Kosciusko last week on their trip from Canada to Mexico.
Riding along the recently marked bike route on streets leading to and from the courthouse square, the couple commented that it was unusual to see those markings in small towns. “Good job, very impressive,” said Townsend, a native of Australia.
Their trip which they said will follow a “U” pattern from Calgary to Mexico with the return through California to Canada.
Traveling with a tent, they spend nights in campgrounds located in areas near access to buying supplies.
However, their trip is not entirely about cycling, they said. “We are staying in touch with nature and are gaining a greater appreciation for nature,” Townsend said. History lessons are also being gained. He said he was happy to learn about Kosciusko, Mississippi, as he is familiar with Mount Kosciuszko in Australia.
Their travels are interspered by stops to set up their computers and work. He is a freelance writer/copywriter. She tutors online and also does transcripts.
Housesitting is another of their endeavors along the way. They arrived in Kosciusko after spending two weeks housesitting in Birmingham. Another week is scheduled in San Antonio, Texas, with others to possibly be arranged.
Upon arrival at their destination in Mexico, they said they will live in an eco-friendly home where their water supply will be rainwater and power will come from the sun. Salvaging and recycling will be practiced in their quest to be self-sufficient and help create an exceptional quality of life with less.
The Townsends said they are inspired to work toward leaving a better world behind. “We want to live in a way that will leave less impact on the environment.”
