Louis Payne Gowan and Janice Temple Burrell were married on February 12, 1967, at McAdams United Methodist Church where they have attended together since childhood.
The couple will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary this year. Both retired, they enjoy serving their church and community and spending time with their children and grandchildren.
Louis and Janice both grew up in McAdams and met in 1951 when they started first grade together. They dated throughout their school years. Because Janice’s mother would not allow her to marry prior to finishing college, the couple set their wedding date for right after her graduation from Delta State University in January 1967.
They made their home in McAdams and continue today as active members of McAdams United Methodist Church. Louis worked for many years as a bricklayer, for several years at Gowan Stockyard in Kosciusko, and has farmed his whole adult life. He still enjoys spending most of his time outdoors. Since retiring from a 40-year teacher career, Janice spends much of her time reading and crafting.
The couple have three children: Jeff Gowan – Singleton, Mike Gowan – Brookhaven and Temple Gowan – New Orleans, La. They also have four grandchildren: Bailie, Melissa, Colby, and Caleb.
Their children and grandchildren extend an invitation to all friends and family to join them for a reception celebrating the couple on February 12, 2017, from 2 to 4 p.m. at McAdams Methodist Church.
