God could not be everywhere, so He created Mothers.
Mothers are needed everywhere, right? We are degreed as doctor, referee, chauffeur, chef, maid, playmate, teacher, preacher and on and on. We work 148 hours a week with little money per hour and with no monetary tips. We are required to be on our feet, ready for action each school morning before the sun rises very high in the blue sky and our curfew is anywhere from ten until midnight, depending on chores to be done before bed and that wonderful soaking bath, if we are lucky.
We are always on the ready no matter what we are doing, to answer the call of duty. We love chocolate candy but are willing to give up the last piece if asked. We seem to never tire, even though our bodies are nearly comatose. We have thick skin because we can take criticism so well. We can put a healthy cooked dinner in the refrigerator and call in a request for pizza. We can jump on a trampoline, swim until we are all shriveled like a prune, build forts, watch endless sports, play x-box like a pro and read books until our eyes cross. We are Mothers!
We can also comfort our babies when they are hurt, even heart hurt. We can plan an intervention when war is beginning. We can get to the baseball field faster than a speeding bullet. We can make excellent hamburgers and macaroni and cheese. We can clean up puke without retching ourselves. We can play cowboys and Indians, spies, wrestling or whatever better than most children. We can teach our children to learn everything they need for tomorrow’s tests. We can tell them about God and how much He loves them.
No, we do not gain much in financial assets from all these jobs and we do have never ending hours and we are always prepared for any and everything. We give up any and everything for our children. What do we get in return for all these endless hours and everlasting duties? We get everything and endless hours of being “Superwoman” in their eyes and love like no other. We, Mothers, get the very best part of this deal!!
On Mother’s Day, I am always the cook. Truthfully, I love it. I love to cook for my big family. One of the things they really like is my creamed potatoes. My grandsons always ask for them.
Meme’s Creamed Potatoes
I use about 8 pounds of white potatoes, peeled and boiled until soft. Put cooked drained potatoes in a big mixer and slowly start to mix. Add 1 large can of Pet milk, and 1/2 cup of mayonnaise. Salt and pepper to taste. As you mix add the milk and mayonnaise (I use Blue Plate.) until the consistency of as my grandsons say – ice cream. These are so moist and creamy and so so good.
