The Attala County Library is having a good year, says Librarian Charla Grace.
“I’m really happy with how things are going,” Grace said at a Monday meeting of the Attala County Board of Supervisors.
Grace gave the board an update on the library and thanked the supervisors for their support. She also gave an update to the Kosciusko Board of Aldermen at a recent meeting.
Grace reported that from May to July the library had 13,948 items in circulation, or an average of 4,649 per month.
“We had 10,948 people come through the library during that three-month period,” she said.
“We still have heavy computer use. We’re still offering curbside delivery, so if you are not comfortable coming into the library, you can just pull up to the library and call, and we will drop the item to your vehicle.”
The library had 61 curbside deliveries, or an average of 20 per month.
“We currently have 11,220 patrons who are registered to use the library,” said Grace. “We’re able to open up our meeting room for public use, and we had nine uses and 79 attendees.”
For the genealogy report, the library has had 888 requests made, or an average of 296 per month.
The library also had a successful summer program, “Oceans of Possibilities,” with 255 children, 32 teens and 88 adults who registered.
Grace also talked about the library’s story walks. She said a story walk features “panels where we take a book from the library, and we blow it up on the photocopier and we laminate it. The panels have stakes that are in the ground, and we spread them out along the library’s sidewalk. Children can come by and read the story outside the library.”
A story walk is currently located at the library’s 201 S. Huntington St. location. The library also placed a new story walk at Jason Niles Park this week. The story is “Dino Pajama Party” by Laurie Wallmark.
“We’ll change it out every two weeks,” said Grace. “We also change the one at the library every two weeks.”

— Friday, Aug. 19: Senior Day at the Coliseum 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
— Friday, Aug. 26: Children’s Movie Night, 6 to 8 p.m.
— Tuesday, Aug. 30: Genealogy Workshop: “Brick Walls” presented by Jennifer McGillan of MSU Special Collections at 6 to 8 p.m.
— Tuesday, Sept. 13: “Essentials to Excel” presented by Dr. Jamie Varner of the MSU Extension Service at 2 p.m.
— Thursday, Sept. 15: Preschool story time at 10 a.m. with special guest Ed Said from Mississippi Public Broadcasting.
