The hitting of Mary Kimble Price led Kosciusko softball to four victories in five games.
She had two singles and two RBIs in a 7-6 win over Lake, a homer and two doubles, with four RBIs, in an 11-2 win over Florence, a double and a single and scored three runs in an 11-1 win over Lake, three singles and a double in a 6-5 loss to Enterprise Clarke and she singled twice in an 8-3 victory over Ethel.
“We're still battling injuries,” said coach Tony Terry.
Left fielder Laura Wood was the latest to be struck by the injury bug. She injured her knee in the 11-1 win over Lake during a tournament Saturday at Newton County and sat out the loss to Enterprise later the same day.
“That took a good hitter out of the lineup,” Terry said. But she was able to return to the lineup two days later and singled twice in the victory over Ethel.
Errors were the culprit in the loss to Enterprise. Anna Grace Whitehead gave the Lady Whippets a 6-4 lead with a two run homer in the top of the seventh. But the first two batters in the bottom of the inning reached on errors, setting the stage for three unearned runs.
“A bad ending to the weekend,” Terry said.
Campbell Blaine singled doubled and tripled in the 7-6 over Lake and Wood tripled. It was Terry’s 400th win.
In the win over Florence, Graycee Rosamond had three singles, Whitehead a single and double and Blaine two singles. Makynkee Dickerson singled and doubled in the 11-1 win over Lake, Rosamond, Gracie Williams and Gracie Kate Burrell each had two singles and Whitehead doubled.
Whitehead homered twice against Enterprise and drove in four runs.
Whitehead, Wood, Burrell and Kelly Goss had two singled each against Ethel, Williams and Rosamond doubled.
Prior to the Ethel game, Price led the Lady Whippets with a .500 average. Wood was next at .455, Rosamond .429 and Whitehead .387.
“The young kids are playing better,” Terry said.
Kosciusko began region play Tuesday with a doubleheader against Leake Central. The Lady Whippets have a home game with Florence Friday, then will be off for Spring Break before a region game at Louisville March 21.
