The recognition keeps coming for Kosciusko softball players as the Lady Whippets begin a quest for a third straight 4A state championship.
Junior Anna Grace Whitehead and sophomore Mary Kimble Price are among “30 players to watch in MHSAA softball playoffs” by The Clarion Ledger.
Earlier, seniors Campbell Blaine and Anna Grace Whitehead were honored as members of The Clarion Ledger's Softball Dandy Dozen, the top 12 players in the state.
The listing of players to watch in the playoffs cites accomplishments this season. Prior to the playoffs,
Kimble was batting .478 with six homers and 32 RBIs. Whitehead has excelled as a pitcher and a hitter. She is 14-3 with a 1.31 ERA and 125 strikeouts, while batting .311 with six homers and 25 RBIs.
Dandy Dozen recognition at the start of the 2023 season was based upon performances during last year.
Blaine batted .405 with 14 doubles, six triples and 35 RBIs.
When the Lady Whippets won their second state championship last year, Blaine was MVP for the championship series with Sumrall, Whitehead was the pitcher in a 10-1 win in the decisive game and Price started the Lady Whippets toward that win with a two-run homer in the first inning.
