The Kosciusko School District recently launched its Whippet Word of the Month. September’s word is “Trust,” which is proudly displayed in the windows of businesses throughout Kosciusko.
“What we’re hoping we can do is put that word in every business throughout the entire Kosciusko School District area,” Dr. Zach Bost, the district’s superintendent. “We hope that parents will go out to eat and see that word on the window as you walk in, and we hope that grows the family unit. You guys can sit down and use that word in conversation while you are eating dinner. We hope that you can walk to any business and see that they are partnering with the Kosciusko School District. So we are really encouraged by what we can do with the Whippet Word of the Month.”
Bost made the announcement at the Kosciusko School District’s Sept. 12 board meeting.
Each month, school district staff members will go to area businesses to put up Whippet Word of the Month signs. According to a message from the superintendent on the back of the signs, “Each month, we will embrace one word connected to social/emotional growth and Greatness. The goal is to help foster productive and positive conversations with the family unit, community and peers. … We are thankful to live in a community that supports our students and schools.”
Also during the superintendent’s report, Bost announced that the school district is partnering with a tutoring service called PAPER. The service is available to every student in grades 3-12 at no charge and provides students with unlimited access to trained tutors 24/7.
Students receive live one-on-one academic support and writing feedback.
“I think that is something parents are going to like,” said Bost. “Sometimes you hear about parents who may not know how to do certain math problems for homework or certain English assignments. So now you have PAPER. It’s real people behind it. It’s not an online service where there’s a robot behind it sending you answers, it’s real people.”
