Kosciusko residents will soon be able to download an app dedicated to improving and simplifying life.
During the Sept. 6 Board of Aldermen meeting, Mayor Tim Kyle described the benefits of creating a phone app where Kosciusko citizens can easily access information about the city, pay their utility bills and receive community alerts.
“It would be a one-stop spot for anyone needing information about our community,” Kyle said. “Right now, if you want to know anything about the city of Kosciusko, you have to go to our website or Facebook. If you want to know anything about the school district, you have to go to their site. If you want to know anything about KAP, you have to go to that site. If you want to know anything about water and lights, you have to go to theirs. With this app, we can put everything in the same spot.”
The app will have information about the city of Kosciusko, Kosciusko schools, the Kosciusko-Attala Partnership, and local retail businesses. It will send notifications about community events to your phone if push notifications are enabled. It will also provide a place to pay utility bills and report utility issues. The Board of Aldermen, Kosciusko schools and the KAP have agreed to share in the cost. Creation of the app was approved, and it will be designed by Tyler Technologies.
Some other topics discussed at the meeting were:
— Three Kosciusko Police Department promotions were approved. Alex Griffin, who graduated at the top of his class in academics at the police academy, will be promoted from uncertified officer to P1 officer. Travis Quesnot and Braxton Goza will both be promoted from P1 to P2 officers.
— Riley Hudson, director of the KAP, was appointed to the tourism council.
— The replacement of two sewer lagoon pumps for station one was approved. The new pumps can pump 750 gallons per minute and the pumps they will replace pump 450 gallons per minute.
— Northside Park pavilion was approved to have a sink, counter and cabinets added.
— Roof repairs for KPD were approved.
— The road beside Kosciusko High School’s football field was approved to be named Whippet Way.
