It has been a good year for Kosciusko football at all levels.
The varsity is 9-1 heading into the 4A playoffs. The JV finished 5-1, the seventh and eighth grade teams both 5-0.
That’s 24-2 for the four teams. Even more impressive is the total scoring margin for the 26 games – 807-166.
The varsity has outscored 10 opponents 421-104. The junior varsity defeated Leake Central 12-6, and Winona 22-8, lost to Choctaw County 20-8, then defeated Morton, Leake Central and Choctaw Central each 28-0.
The eighth-grade team allowed only one touchdown with victories over Leake Central 28-0, Winona 24-0, Choctaw County 24-8, Morton 34-0 and Choctaw Central 22-0. The seventh graders had three shutouts with wins over Leake Central 26-0, Winona 42-0 and Choctaw County 18-0, followed by a 26-6 victory over Mortan and completed the season undefeated by edging Choctaw Central 16-14.
It’s the JV, eighth and seventh grade players who will be playing for Kosciusko on Friday nights in the coming years, having established a winning tradition.
“We have quite a few on the JV squad this year who will be big contributors for us next year,” sad JV coach Jonathan Cates.
