The Kosciusko boy basketball team remained unbeaten at 6-0 with a 75-54 victory over Aberdeen in a tournament at West Lowndes. Five of the six wins were by at least 20 points.
“I go into the game thinking it’s going to be a contest and our guys prove me wrong. That’s always a good thing.” said coach Marquis Bailey.
Kosciusko led 17-11 after one quarter and pulled away by outscoring the Bulldogs 19-8 in the second period for a 17-point halftime lead.
Cory Guyton again led the Whippets with 24 points on 8 of 11 shooting, seven rebounds and four assists. Josh Cole had 18 points, nine rebounds and five assists and Jamarien Nash 12 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Girls
Th Lady Whippets were tied with New Hope 23-23 at the half but were outscored 19-10 in the third quarter. Kosciusko pulled within four in the fourth quarter but came up short 54-49.
“We had some defensive lapses in the third quarter. But overall we played well,” said coach Cory Guyton. “They are a good team. We showed some grit and fight. That type of game will help us get better for district.”
Kalesha Miller had 19 points and 10 rebounds, Morgan Brown 10 points, four steals and three rebounds and Zanyla Peteer six points, three rebounds and three assists.
The Whippets and Lady Whippets played Humphreys County Tuesday. Home games with McAdams were scheduled for Friday but might be rescheduled because the football team is playing in the 4A championship game that day.
