Carol Fielder, DAR Good Citizen chairman of the Samuel Hammond Chapter of the MSDAR is pleased to announce Madison Odom as the 2020 DAR Good Citizen winner. The DAR Good Citizens Award was created in 1934 and is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The aim of the program is to recognize outstanding young people who exhibit the qualities of good citizenship in their homes, schools, and communities. This award recognizes and rewards individuals who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools and communities. Ethel High School Senior Class of 2020 Madison Odom was selected by her teachers and the administration because she demonstrates these qualities to an outstanding degree. She is the daughter of Melanie and Charles Odom. While at Ethel, Madison was involved in the Fellowship of Christian Students for four years and served as a captain her senior year, the fast pitch and slow pitch softball teams for four years, the Student Council for three years, and the Health Occupation Students of America for two years. She also was a member of the Annual Staff for four years and Beta Club for four years where she served as Vice President her Junior year and President her Senior year. Madison was also voted Most Likely to Succeed, Most Athletic, Most Intellectual, and Miss EHS her senior year. She spent two years with HOSA volunteering at The Shepard’s Touch and is member of Jerusalem Baptist Church. Madison is currently enrolled in Holmes Community College where she is obtaining her prerequisites for nursing. She hopes to specialize in pediatric oncology or the neonatal intensive care unit and eventually become a nurse practitioner.
