Brandon Higgins, district manager at Spring Street Cigars, says he is excited to bring the business’ hand-rolled cigars to Kosciusko. Adding a new storefront to the area seemed like the perfect opportunity for Higgins, who was a park ranger in Kosciusko for six years before joining the family business.
"One of our big goals as a company is revitalizing these downtown areas," Higgins said. "That's a big goal of ours is to help pull people downtown, and hopefully draw some other industries down here to get people to come to the city."
A grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held last Friday at 3 p.m. at Spring Street Cigars, located at 108 E. Washington St.
Higgins said he spoke with several people before settling on the Spring Street’s downtown location.
“The building was built in the 1880s or late 1890s, and from its inception, it has always been an attorney’s office up until now,” he said.
Not only is the history of the building rich, but so are the products being sold at Spring Street Cigars.
According to Higgins, Spring Street offers cigars starting at $30 and up. They have numerous brands of cigars that are hand-picked from the tobacco plant, dried, hand-rolled and aged for five years.
Joe White, a Spring Street Cigar employee, measures out tobacco at the store.
In the future, Spring Street Cigars plans to stream football games and televised fights where locals can come enjoy a cigar and watch their favorite team play or fighters.
“I always say people come in for the cigar, but they come back for the experience,” Higgins said.
Higgins also said that so far business is looking great, and many have stopped in to smoke a cigar, see the store and enjoy the family-like company that Spring Street Cigar provides.
