Beat Four Supervisor Alvin McCrory was on hand to give instructions to workmen as a massive fire ant eradication program got under way Monday in Attala County. The program which calls for the spreading of poisonous ant bait over much of the county kicked off near Goodman in McCrory’s beat. The Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce is supplying equipment for the project. The County Board of Supervisors and County Agent’s Office are teaming up to lend organizational assistance.
Louie Lintereur has taken office as president of the Kosciusko Rotary Club. Other officers are Don Smith, vice president; Bill Jordan, board member; Cliff Hodges, former president and board member; and W. O. Oliver, secretary-treasurer, Hugh Potts Jr. and Harold Reid.
Mrs. June Sims of Kosciusko is pictured with some of her artwork which is being featured this month at the main office of the Merchants and Farmers Bank. In addition to portraits, she also has scenes and still life in the display. Persons visiting the bank are invited to view her work which remains on exhibit throughout the month.

Durant native Henry Lee Keen, who received a PhD degree, was recently honored at the 1997 annual Chancellor’s Coffee at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Joining him was his father David Grantham, mother Mary Ann Grantham and grandmother Minnie Lee McCrory.
Roos Pool and Spa of Kosciusko furnished the Kosciusko Whippets as well as many other schools in Mississippi with new spas for the upcoming football season. Approximately 15 other schools in the state were treated to spas. French Camp, Winona, Philadelphia, Madison Ridgeland Academy and Grenada are just a few of the schools in the state that will use the spas until late December.
Mrs. Mary Ricks Thornton was recently presented a charcoal portrait of her likeness to hang at the Mary Ricks Thornton Cultural Center in Kosciusko. Presenting the artwork is the artist Jason Bouldin and his wife Alicia.
Picketers walk the line in front of the United Parcel Service distribution center east of Kosciusko Monday morning. The UPS employees, striking increased job security and more full-time positions, took to the picket lines around 7 a.m. after a deadline on negotiations between UPS management and Teamsters expired at 11:01 Sunday night.
