Mrs. Williams E. Cochran of Kosciusko showed some of her artwork which was displayed during the month of July in the main lobby of Merchants and Farmers Bank. The art series featured Kosciusko and Attala County artist.
Members of the 1948 football team at what was then Sallis High School got together during the July 4th holiday to recount old glories. The member of the 1948 football team was Jimmy Hughes of Durant, Leonard Cain of Jackson, Burdette Smith of Sallis, Jim Smith of Sallis, Cadman Porter of Kosciusko, William Earl Culpepper of Sallis, Eldred Burrell of Sallis, Coach M.B. Holmes of Sallis, Jack Holmes of Kosciusko, Pat Waddell of Durant, James Robertson of Winona and Jack Kuykendall of Mobile.
Newt Love of Kosciusko appeared as a guest on a Jackson television program titled “Down a County Lane,” Linda Dickey Montgomery, the show’s hostess, talked with Love about his greenhouse operation in Kosciusko. The daily television productions were produced by the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce in cooperation with WAPT-TV, Jackson.

Kosciusko Miss Hospitality Amy Rawson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry McCrory, took her walk across the stage of Humphrey Coliseum during the annual state pageant on the campus of Mississippi State University. Miss Hattiesburg Mary Lacy Montgomery went on to capture the state title.
Kosciusko Police official destroyed a cache of confiscated weapons that had been in the department’s custody for up to five years. Chief investigator Junior Coleman, Chief Dirk Thayer and Sgt. Ricky Thornton observed as city employee Ron Bain melted down a weapon. Thayer said most of the weapons were handguns of the Saturday Night Special variety. A total of 63 weapons were seized as evidence in semi-felony and misdemeanor cases were destroyed.
Demetrius McCormick of Kosciusko was among 14 students nationwide selected for a special summer-long chemistry research program at the University of Alabama. The program supported by the National Science Foundation, is designed to keep talented students interested in a chemistry career. McCormick, a student at Tuskegee University, is working with Dr. David E. Nikles on organic materials.
