The Apostle Peter writes that God “ … has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, in order that by them you might become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust” (2nd Peter 1:4). Peter will list some things in verses 5-7 we are to add to our faith:
— Moral excellence
— Knowledge
— Self-control
— Perseverance
— Godliness
— Brotherly kindness
— Love
So faith results in spiritual growth. Spiritual growth brings practical results. Note verses 8-11: “For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful…he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted…as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble; for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you.” Remember, spiritual growth brings practical results. What are they? First, take another look at verse 8: “For if these qualities are yours and are increasing…” Are they yours? Are they mine? If so, are they increasing? If they are increasing you are growing. If they are increasing that growth will be see in these ways:
(1) You will be useful.
(2) You will be fruitful.
(3) You will not be short-sighted.
(4) You will be secure.
