The Ethel High School boys and girls basketball teams are entering a pivotal stretch of Class 1A, Region 5 action, with four consecutive district games on tap beginning Friday night at Noxapater.
The Ethel boys (5-14 overall, 3-3 district) travel to Noxapater on Friday, Jan. 30, for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff against the Tigers (2-15). The matchup will be a rematch of a Jan. 13 district contest in which Ethel earned a 59-51 home victory.
The Tigers snapped a brief skid last week, while Ethel is coming off a 52-46 district win over Sebastopol on Jan. 23. The win moved the Tigers into a tie for third place in the Region 5 standings.
Following Friday’s game, Ethel will continue its road swing Monday, Feb. 2, with a 7:30 p.m. district matchup at Leake County. The Tigers will then return home Tuesday, Feb. 3, to host Nanih Waiya at 7:30 p.m., before closing the regular-season district schedule Thursday, Feb. 6, at home against McAdams at 7 p.m.
The Ethel girls (9-10 overall, 2-4 district) will also be in action Friday night at Noxapater, with tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m. against the Lady Tigers (10-8). The two teams last met Jan. 13, when Ethel picked up a 46-40 district win at home.
Ethel is seeking to halt a three-game losing streak after falling to Sebastopol, 49-24, on Jan. 23. The Lady Tigers will also travel to Leake County on Monday, Feb. 2, for a 6 p.m. district game, before returning home to host Nanih Waiya on Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 6 p.m.
The regular-season district slate for the Lady Tigers concludes Thursday, Feb. 6, with a 6 p.m. home game against McAdams.
Both Ethel teams remain in the hunt for favorable positioning heading into the upcoming Region 5 tournament.
