Ethel’s 40th annual May Day Festival will be held Saturday, May 6 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The event will feature food, arts and crafts, political candidates and a live band.
“I hope everybody will come out and enjoy the festival,” said Gwen Sims of Ethel, who is organizing the event.
The band 90 Proof will perform from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the downtown pavilion.
Ethel’s Beta Club and band will have booths with face painting. The Ethel High School band will hold a raffle for a Mother’s Day gift basket. The raffle is serving as a fundraiser for the band.
Some of the arts and crafts vendors will include custom T-shirts, Sue’s Goat Soap, boutiques featuring children’s clothing, the library and the Soil and Water Conservation District, among others. One of the unique vendors is a man who takes deer antlers and creates cross necklaces.
“I’m expecting a large turnout,” said Sims. “We want everyone to come out and have some good food and a good time.”
She also recommends bringing a lawn chair.
“The VFW and American Legion will be there. There will be lots of good barbecue and lots of good baked goods by CC’s Bake Shop from McCool,” said Sims.
Sims said no one will be able to drive down Main Street during the festival.
“It will be completely closed off,” she said. “They will have to detour around Main Street.”
Parking on the walking track will not be allowed.
Anyone who is interested in having a booth at the festival can contact Sims at 662-770-2434 until Friday No applications will be accepted after Friday.
