The Ethel Lady Tigers picked up a pair of wins this week, while the Tigers took three losses. Both teams will be looking to improve as district play continues.
The Ethel Lady Tigers picked up a pair of wins this week. The week started with a 34-23 win over Clarkdale. Makayla Merritt led the way with 20 points, while Jasmine Williamson added eight points The Lady Tigers then took a 59-41 loss to Sebastopol. Merritt scored 26 points, while Claire Tate added eight. Addy Newman added five points. The Lady Tigers finished the week with a 46-39 win over Leake County. Merritt scored 28 points, while Tate added six. Newman added five.
The Tigers had a rough week taking three losses. The week started with a tough 41-38 loss to Clarkdale. Zantavious Clark led with 10 points, while Jake Newman added nine. Jaylin Felton added six, while Caleb Merritt and Caden Merritt each had five. The Tigers then took a 40-26 loss to Sebastopol. Caleb Merritt and Caden Merrit each scored seven points. Clark added six points.
The Tigers ended their week with a 63-26 loss to Leake County. Newman led with six points, while Caleb Merritt added five. Jaylin Felton and Caden Merritt each added four.
Schedule notes:
Ethel was scheduled to host Noxapater on Tuesday night before traveling to Nanih Waiya on Thursday, Jan. 15. Both games are district matchups and carry importance in the Region 5 standings.
Following the Nanih Waiya game, the Lady Tigers will travel to McAdams on Jan. 20 before returning home to face Sebastopol on Jan. 23. The girls will then close out district play with road games at Leake County on Jan. 27 and Noxapater on Jan. 30, followed by home contests against Nanih Waiya on Feb. 3 and McAdams on Feb. 6.
Like the girls, the boys were set to host Noxapater on Tuesday before traveling to Nanih Waiya on Thursday, Jan. 15, in region action. The Tigers will continue district play with road games at McAdams on Jan. 20 and Leake County on Jan. 27, along with home games against Sebastopol on Jan. 23, Noxapater on Jan. 30, Nanih Waiya on Feb. 3 and McAdams on Feb. 6.
All district games are scheduled as girls-boys doubleheaders, with girls games tipping off at 6 p.m. and boys games to follow.
