Once again I am tasked with the job of trying to get our class reunion together. This year will mark our NUMBER 60!! We have been out of high school for over a half century. Boy, are we mature, senior, aged, elderly — just plain out OLD... When did I get old? How did I get so old? I look at people I know, and I say they are the older group of my friends. Heck, I am their older friend. I look at friends/acquaintances, and I think in my mind, “You sure have aged since I last saw you.” They look like the mega intersection of railway tracts. Well as soon as I peep into my mirror I look as if the Grand Central Terminal tracks has wrecked on my cheeks.
I can remember in my 20s, 30s, forties and even into my 50s friends would ask me what type of skin care I used as my skin had very few wrinkles. My mother went home at the age of 83, and she had not many fine wrinkles. I suppose your proclivity to face wrinkling comes from your genes of your parents. As I said my mother had few wrinkles but I declare my other side, the Prices, have a high penchant for those face tracts. I don't believe my mother ever had a face regiment to stave off aging. I saw her use Maybelline on her eye lashes and rouge on her cheeks. I gave her some of the same creams I use once, when she was in her 70s, and she said she would save them for when she needed them.
But, as I said we are gathering for our class reunion in June, and I don't feel as if I can get these creases, puckers, grooves, and crinkles ironed out in the next two and a half months. I would never mention a face lift. I've seen actors who go for this and their lips look like a big bumble bee stung them and caused the massive swelling. I saw one whose eyebrow on the right side was and inch lower than her left. And then of course there's botox and those who look like a ventriloquist.
I feel sure there will be many of my female friends who look beautiful even with the rumples on their pretty faces. We are the girls of the ’60s with our bell bottom jeans, halter tops, mini skirts and high boots and barefoot. We loved the natural look of clothes and makeup and jewelry. I think we passed lots of this style on to our daughters as today mini skirts are not for sitting, and still worn with high boots, and halter tops are still worn usually without undergarments. Not lots has changed in the world of style except the young ladies of this era are much more daring than we were. Did you see the Oscars?
So Ladies lets embrace our age of “right now.” Keep old friends and make new ones; don't worry, be happy; set new goals, new passions; carry on loving; and above all, dress as you please, do as you will. Pull out those bell bottom jeans and halter tops.
We love banana bread and I always have some bananas left over that begin to turn black, so I use then for my bread.
