Free tuition needs close monitoring

President Obama, it seems, has one-upped Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant in proposing free community college tuitions. Bryant, back in November, proposed a $3 million plan to pay for community college for students who earn a technical diploma in high school.

Opinion: A prescription for bad government

We don’t suspect a Mississippi lawmaker’s effort to muzzle public officials will go any further this year than it did last. Rep. Omeria Scott’s persistence, though, in pursuing a “bad government” and possibly unconstitutional law does provide a good excuse for correcting a common misunderstanding about the state’s Open Meetings Law.
