During last Thursday’s special called meeting, the Kosciusko School Board updated district-wide COVID-19 policies and approved learning options for the month of September.
Students were set to return to school on Tuesday, Sept. 7. Kosciusko Lower Elementary, Kosciusko Middle Elementary, Kosciusko Upper Elementary, and Kosciusko Junior High School returned to traditional face-to-face learning, but families now also have the option for their children to learn virtually.
Kosciusko High School implemented a hybrid learning schedule. Students will attend in-person classes every other day and spend days outside of the classroom learning virtually. As previously reported, the Mississippi Department of Education allowed districts to pursue hybrid learning schedules through Oct. 31.
Students are divided by last name into two groups — A or B.
Group A includes students whose last names begin with letters A through K. They will report to campus every Monday and Wednesday.
Group B includes students whose last names begin with letters L through Z. They will report to campus every Tuesday and Thursday.
The groups will alternate Fridays for which learns in-person and which learns virtually.
On days students do not report to campus, they will learn virtually using Zoom to connect with their teachers.
The district will follow MHSAA guidelines concerning athletics. With a hybrid learning model, some sports periods may have split attendance on different days. However, sports currently in-season such as football, cross country, cheer, band, and volleyball will be able to continue practicing in full after school each day.
The school board will reconvene Oct. 12 to examine this month’s results and reevaluate the available learning options.
