Jody Matthews, 46, passed Saturday at the University Medical Center in Jackson.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 25, at Culpepper Funeral Home in Kosciusko with burial to follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Carmack. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Culpepper Funeral Home.
Jody is survived by his wife, Kristie Gaskin Matthews; his daughter, Ashley Matthews; his sons, Kody Matthews, Kaleb Matthews, and Sam Greene; his parents, Ruth and Dan Matthews; his sister, Lacey Rigby (Michael); and his wife’s parents, Karen Ward (Rick) and Steve Gaskin (Linda).
Jody worked with the U S Corps of Engineers and he had served in the military during the Iraq onflict.
Jody served as a member of Mississippi Army National Guard and was medically discharged after 21 years of service in July of 2013. Jody served as a non-commissioned officer (E-5 Sergeant) in the 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team. He retired as a member of Det 1, Alpha Btry, 2-114th Strike in Ackerman, MS. He served as a squad leader of a mechanized infantry platoon in Operation Iraqi Freedom from January to December 2005, where he sustained injuries that eventually caused his medical discharge.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Arthur W. and Emma T. Matthews, and Joseph Lightsey and Mattie Lynn.
