Bridge 60 on Attala Road 4110 in District Four and Bridge 173 on Attala Road 5210 in District Five have been closed until further notice.
State contractors alerted county engineer Christian Gardner that the bridges needed to be closed due to poor conditions, and Gardner relayed the information to the Board of Supervisors at its Jan. 3 meeting, the first of 2022.
Bridge 173 will be replaced, according to District Five Supervisor Tim Pinkard. He said the bridge needs to be torn out and will be replaced with tanker pipes.
Bridge 60 could prove to be a more difficult challenge. It would likely take at least six tanker pipes to repair that bridge, something Gardner said he does not consider a feasible option due to high water drainage in the area. An alternative option may be to replace the bridge with an 18- by 10-foot double-cell box culvert.
While no final decision was made on Bridge 60, District Four Supervisor Willie Perteet said he plans to stay in contact with Gardner and state contractors before determining the appropriate course of action to repair or replace the bridge.
