Recently while visiting another church on a Sunday, I was given the opportunity to take a tour of their educational complex. It included a great fellowship area with a modern kitchen, a gym, a “Teen Room” which could easily handle 30 to 40 young people, the two ministers’ offices and classrooms. As the tour took me down the hallway, different classrooms were pointed out and info shared s to the class makeup. I was impressed! Then we came to a classroom and the comment was made, “This is our Cemetery Classroom.” For a moment I was speechless. Then I asked the question, “What is a cemetery class?” This very informative church member giving me this tour said, “It is a class for all of us older people. The last place we are going in across the street to the cemetery.” Needless to say, that really caught my attention. Would such a class be very popular where I go to church? Probably not. But all that caused me to do some more serious thinking.
If Jesus continues to delay His coming, I am ultimately headed to the cemetery. That is, this earthly house I am living in now is headed there, the cemetery. That is where all my loved ones and friends will come to say a final goodbye. Not pleasant to think about, but death is a part of life. A very good question to ask yourself, as I ask myself: “Am I ready for the cemetery?” Consider some passages from God’s word:
“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints” (Ps. 116:15).
(Am I living the life a saint should be living?)
“Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord…” (Rev. 14:13).
(If I were to die right now, would I die in the Lord?)
“O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end!” (Deut. 32:29).
(Have I given proper consideration to my latter end?)
“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom” (Ps. 90:12).
(Am I, are you doing that?)
Are you ready to go to the cemetery? Am I? If not, what do we need to do to get ready? God’s Word has the answers. If you would like to talk about it, give me a call at 601-562-4226 or drop me a note in the mail at PO Box 1399, Kosciusko.
