KSD monitors cases, eyes return to face-to-face learning for KHS
At the Kosciusko School District’s Monday night meeting, Superintendent Ellzey announced that only one new COVID-19 case was reported throughout the district last week. 22 students returned Tuesday, Sept. 7, reporting positive cases, but 21 of them were contracted out of school and reported as soon as the district reopened.
After seeing statistics decrease, the district will continue to monitor positive COVID-19 cases throughout this week. If numbers remain low, the district may allow Kosciusko High School to return to traditional, face-to-face classes on Monday, Sept. 20, for five days a week.
KHS Principal Henry Coats explained to the board that hybrid scheduling is effective at separating students, but it can cause difficulties in coordination for teachers.
Some students are choosing to learn virtually. As of now, there are seven virtual students at KHS along with seven at KJHS, five at KUE, four at KME, and two at KLE.
KHS has administered 22 new vaccinations with the majority being students.

During a special-called meeting on Aug. 31, the Board of Aldermen approved a new hire for the police department and promoted five officers.
The hiring of Chace Quimby from Carthage, who has nearly 10 years of law enforcement experience, was made effective Sept. 4.

At the Sept. 7 Aldermen meeting, KPD officer Braxton Goza was promoted from Patrolman-1 to Patrolman-2.
Interim Police Chief David White said these officers are being promoted based on their experience and tenure within the department.
