Kosciusko Lower Elementary students and staff gathered at the flagpole this morning to remember those who died during the September 11, 2001, attack on our country.
Lt. Colonel Jerry Don Dickerson, brother of second-grade teacher Melanie McCafferty and uncle of kindergarten teacher Sara McCafferty, lost his life at the Pentagon when one of the planes crashed there.
Melanie, Sara, and Robby McCafferty attended today's ceremonies.
On September 11, 2001, nineteen al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four commercial airplanes. The hijackers flew two into the World Trade Center in New York City. A third plane was crashed into the Pentagon, and the fourth crashed in Pennsylvania after passengers attempted to regain control of their place. In all, nearly 3,000 people were killed in the attack on American soil.
