The Mississippi Main Street Association (MMSA) has awarded funds to 15 Main Street Communities that applied for Community Development Grants for 2020-2021 to incentivize development, improvement, and revitalization in their historic downtown business districts throughout Mississippi.
Kosciusko Main Street will use the $2,000 in grant funds to make physical improvements to Choate's Stand Park, a historic area in downtown Kosciusko on Natchez Street that is being re-developed for an enhanced educational experience for all to enjoy. A split rail fence, wagon, new signs, implements, and more will be displayed when developed.
“The Choate Stand area is such an historic part of Attala County and downtown Kosciusko sitting along the original Trace,” said Darren Milner of the Kosciusko-Attala Partnership. “We are excited that Mississippi Main Street awarded us with this grant. The funds will help us begin planned enhancements to the property.”
MMSA designated communities were able to apply for individual funds of up to $2,500 with a required matching investment for shovel-ready brick and mortar projects as well as consulting services that may be used to carry out a Designated Community’s program of work.
"MMSA is proud to award these communities with Community Development funds that will help them achieve successful projects in their downtown business districts," said Thomas Gregory, MMSA State Coordinator. "We were able to expand our grant program this year thanks to the generous support of our public and private investors, which allows us to assist our communities with their downtown development projects and programs."
