Sheriff Curtis Pope is pleased to announce that the Attala County Sheriff’s Office has received new Kevlar vests through a grant awarded by the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security.
Kevlar vests carry a certification expiration date, and all ACSO-issued vests were either approaching or had exceeded their recommended service life. The grant arrived at a critical time and will help ensure deputies continue to have dependable protective equipment while serving and protecting the citizens of Attala County.
“These vests are needed, especially with the types of weapons available to people committing crimes today,” Attala County Sheriff Curtis Pope said. “We want to do everything we can to make sure our deputies return home safely each day. This equipment provides the best protection possible and can help make dangerous situations more survivable.”
The Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP) provides funding to local law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and emergency operations organizations to strengthen preparedness and protection against potential terrorism threats. Grant funding may be used for equipment, training, exercises, and supplies related to approved programs.
This marks the first year the Attala County Sheriff’s Office has received funding through the HSGP program, and the department has already submitted an application for the current grant cycle.
Sheriff Pope and the Attala County Sheriff’s Office express sincere appreciation to the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security for its continued support of local agencies and commitment to officer safety.
