America’s 250th birthday will be celebrated this Saturday. It is more than a national milestone—it is a moment for Christians to pause, give thanks, and teach our children and grandchildren why this nation has been uniquely blessed by God. From the beginning, America has been shaped by people who believed that freedom is a gift from the Lord and that every person is created in His image. Our founders understood that liberty without virtue eventually collapses, and virtue without faith soon fades. That truth has guided our greatest moments and corrected our worst ones. As Christian grandparents, we have the sacred responsibility to remind the next generation that America is great not because we are perfect, but because God has been gracious. If they learn anything about our nation, let it be this: our greatness has always depended on our goodness—and our goodness has always depended on God.
We must also teach them that freedom is not merely the right to do what we want, but the responsibility to do what is right. A Christ-centered nation is built in living rooms long before it is shaped in courtrooms—through prayer, integrity, compassion, courage, and a bold witness for Jesus Christ. When our grandchildren see families who love God, serve others, and stand for truth even when it is costly, they will understand that America's strength comes from hearts surrendered to Christ. Keeping America Christ-centered is not about politics or power; it is about living out the gospel in everyday life. If we want America to remain strong for the next 250 years, we must model a faith worth inheriting, teach our grandchildren to love God above all else, and help ensure they inherit not only a free nation, but a faithful one.
