South State meet tentatively reset for April 4

By LAURENCE HILLIARD,

It now appears that Saturday, Apr. 4, could be the date for the MHSAA Class 1A South State boys powerlifting meet at Ethel that includes McAdams, but nothing is definite at this time due to uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The meet was originally scheduled for this Saturday, but had to be postponed when the Mississippi High School Activities Association suspended all athletics for this week. It was tentatively rescheduled for a week later, Mar. 28, but that date was also out when MHSAA extended its suspension another week.

Ethel athletic director and powerlifting coach Corey Parish said Monday that he would contact other coaches to work out a date, adding that a Saturday would be best.

McAdams won the Region 3-1A meet and qualified 10 lifters for the South State meet – seven individual winners and three second place finishers.

Ethel finished third at the region meet and qualified six lifters for South State.

The South State meet will serve as qualifications for the state meet scheduled for Apr. 18 at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson, although that date is uncertain at this time. The top three in each weight class will advance to the state meet.

The 1A North State meet was held Mar. 6, with Okolona edging Biggersville for the team title by one point.
