Superintendent David Spears is pleased with the Attala County School district rating of 86 by the Department of Education Mississippi Report Card. It is up from 112 last year.

Approximately 125 people participated in the walk to raise money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. About $3200 was pledged and nearly all was collected by press time.

A fire broke out at The Attala Company Monday morning. The sprinkler system contained the fire until the fire department arrived. About 25 tons of alfalfa was lost.

Adam Ellington and Breck Richardson were winners in the Upper Elementary Geography Bee. They will participate in the state level of the National Geography Bee.

The Russian family of Alex and Lubov Tsema is now living in Goodman on the Holmes Community College campus. He is working with the HCC Bulldog football team, and the couple also supervise a men’s dorm.

Barnes community soldier Milton Swain was killed in combat in Vietnam last week.

Ethel High School FFA members Eddie Turnipseed and David Burchfield have been named winners in state dairy production by the State FFA Association.

Mrs. Jack Hughes enjoys cooking and growing flowers. She also likes arranging flowers and sharing them with her neighbors.

Millette Marie Coulter, age 3, is the  IV Ranch Store Cowgirl of the Month.

James East and George Steal have been named to the supervisory staff at Hamilton Manufacturing Co.
