Prairie Farms — listed on this map by its former name, Luvel Dairy Products — is located about half a mile from the sewage lagoon and contributes more than half of the wastewater that winds up there. The lagoon in question is shown as the two green rectangular areas in the upper right of this aerial view. A permanent solution to the occasional strong odors emanating from the lagoon for extended periods of time since spring 2018 has eluded officials thus far.
Mayor Jimmy Cockroft told the Board of Aldermen Monday night that Prairie Farms on Veterans Memorial Drive is currently trucking its waste offsite in response to the city’s continued request that the company take steps to resolve an ongoing odor problem at the city sewage lagoon that receives wastewater from the facility.
