The more than 5,000 Entergy customers in Attala County can each sign up to receive a one-time $80 check.
Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley made the announcement last week at the Attala County Courthouse.
“We want to get the word out to Mississippi families that they are eligible for this check if they want a physical check to cash,” he said last Wednesday. “That’s why we’re here today. There’s a large part of this county that is covered by Entergy, so we wanted to make sure we were locally trying to get the word out for folks who would like to sign up.”
There are 5,368 Entergy customers in Attala County.
To sign up to receive the check, Entergy customers can visit the utility company’s website, www.entergy-mississippi.com. The deadline to register is Aug. 17. Customers who do not sign up to receive the one-time check will receive an $80 credit on their September bill.
“We know that groceries are high, gas is high, so we wanted to give the option to all citizens who get their power from Entergy to actually get that $80 and do with it what they want to,” Presley said. “If they forget to go on and ask for their check, they are not going to lose their money. If they pass the deadline by accident, they will see an $80 credit on their September power bill from Entergy.”
Before visiting Kosciusko, Presley had also made stops in Greenwood, Carrollton, French Camp and Winona.
In a press release, Presley said the that the $80 refund to all 421,000 Entergy customers throughout Mississippi is the direct result of Public Service Commission action in the closing of litigation filed by the PSC that produced a historic settlement valued at $300 million to customers over the next year. Settlement proceeds will go toward the one-time $80 refund to customers, hedge against spikes in natural gas prices and to prevent a $180 rate increase in 2023 along with a moratorium on certain profits of Entergy for four years.
“I fought to make sure that customers of Entergy would have the opportunity to get a one-time check of $80 rather than a bill credit, if they wanted it,” said Presley in the press release.
