The Kosciusko Whippet baseball team got off to a 2-0 start over the weekend by outscoring both opponents with a combined score of 19-0. Kosy defeated Choctaw Central 8-0 on Friday night and Yazoo City 11-0 on Saturday.
Kosciusko Fastpitch got off to a strong start over the opening weekend with two blowout wins over Ethel and Choctaw Central, 10-1 and 11-1 respectively. The wins pushed the Lady Whippets to 2-0 on the season with strong efforts at the plate and on the mound.
It did not take long for the new scoreboard to light up at Ethel High School as Tyson Steen hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. The Ethel Tigers never looked back as Blake McKinley struck out eight Greenville St.
The Lady Whippets finished the regular season with three consecutive Region 4 wins over Leake Central last Tuesday night, Noxubee County in a make-up game on Thursday night and finished Germantown off on Friday night by scores of 55-50, 52-29 and 42-37 respectively.
The Ethel Lady Tigers began Region 3 Tourney action Thursday night at 7 p.m. against the McAdams Lady Bulldogs in McAdams. Ethel Tiger Daquannay Dotson drives to the paint while fellow Tiger Tykevin Wade (11) looks on.
The Whippet and Tiger baseball and fastpitch teams started their first official practices for the upcoming season this past Monday. Kosciusko and Ethel High Schools will begin their respective seasons on February 20.
