The Lady Whippets of Kosciusko High School were hoping to put an exclamation to their 2019 season as they took part in the MHSAA State Tournament on Wednesday in a game that was played after the Star-Herald’s press deadline for this week.
In the spring, the Kosciusko athletic department faced a difficult decision: forge ahead with its slow-pitch softball program or jettison it in favor of volleyball.
Entering the bye week, Kosciusko head coach Kelly Causey stated he and his staff planned to address several deficiencies that have led to his team’s 1-4 start.
Kosciusko is idle this week, but head coach Kelly Causey is not using the downtime to take any breaks. Instead, he and his coaching staff will work with their players on ways to snap out of a recent lull that has seen the Whippets drop their last three contests.
Kosciusko dropped a 49-10 road contest at Grenada last week to fall to 1-3 on the season.
The margin of defeat is the Whippets’ highest this season, as their first two losses were determined by a mere 11 points.
