Burton-Meek wedding vows pledged at First Methodist

The marriage ceremony uniting Emily Kathryn Meek and Scott Jerald Burton took place on March 8, 2008, at six o’clock in the evening at First United Methodist Church in Kosciusko.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Barry Meek of Kosciusko. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Dale Faulkner Scarborough and the late Donald L. Scarborough of Kosciusko, and Mrs. Ruth White Meek and the late William Lake Meek, Jr. of Lexington.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Garry Thomas Comley of Perris, Calif., and Mr. Larry Dale Burton of Las Vegas, Nev. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Martin Johnson of Farmersburg, Indiana, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Ray Burton of Perris, Calif.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a halter gown of lace, featuring a silk dupioni ruching at the waist, accented with a side drape and brooch. The bride carried a colonial pave bouquet of various tones of ivory roses and green cymbidium orchids.

Attending the bride as matron of honor was her sister, Dr. Jennifer Warren Welch of Jackson, Tennessee. Bridesmaids were Rachael Olivia Abrams of Oxford, cousin of the bride; Leah Mabry Alford, Mary Claire Atwood, Evelyn Mary Carter, Lindsey Elizabeth Fowler all of Kosciusko; Jenny Lind Bussey of Birmingham, Ala.; and Susan Rae Stevens of Oxford, sister of the groom. Serving as flower girls were Kyleigh Mackenzie Comley of Clinton, niece of the groom; Sarah Kathryn Meek of Olive Branch, cousin of the bride; and Olivia Kathryn Welch of Jackson, Tenn., niece of the bride. Anna Claire Taylor of Memphis, read scripture.

Bridesmaids wore tea-length halter satin charmeuse and chiffon dresses in coral, featuring a chiffon tie and pin around the waist. The bridesmaids carried bouquets of roses that were in various graduated shades of coral.

Serving as his best man was William Phillip Young of Anaheim, Calif. Groomsmen included Michael Joseph Burton of Big Bear, Calif., brother of the groom; Ryan Hunter Hooker of Tupelo; Michell Martin Skrmetta of Miami Fla/; Dr. Todd Alan Welch of Jackson, Tenn.; Brett Waller Rosson, Joey Robert Vasilyev, and William Brett Weathersby all of Oxford. Serving as ring bearers were Ruston Briggs Comley of Clinton; Gilbert Joseph Comley, Jr. of Clinton; and John Garrison Comley of Peculiar, Mo., all nephews of the groom.

Ushers included Joshua Beatty Bauer of Memphis; Kerry Monroe Caldwell of Franklin, Tenn.; and Kevin Scott Young of Dallas, Texas

On the eve of the wedding, the groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner for the wedding party, family, and friends at the Kosciusko Country Club. A large round flower ball arrangement hung over the table of honor. Votives and ribbons with orchids tied in them were suspended from the ceiling.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a reception at their home. Guests danced to music provided by the SoulOutsiders of Memphis.

Sparklers lit the path as the coupled departed for a honeymoon to the Mayan Riviera, Mexico. The couple now resides in Southaven. Scott is a professional free-lance photographer and owns Scott Burton Photography in Oxford and the Memphis area and Emily owns a gift shop and home décor business in Olive Branch.
