Lady Whippets open season with back-to-back victories

The Kosciusko High School boys and girls soccer teams will play host to Choctaw Central on Friday.

The Lady Whippets were 2-1 going into a Tuesday night match against West Point at home, while the KHS boys are 1-1 heading into the Choctaw Central contest. The Whippets lost to Forest, but defeated Neshoba Central on Friday.

The Lady Whippets soccer team was all smiles following their game last Tuesday against Forest. The Lady Whippets protected Landrum Field by defeating the Lady Bobcats 6-0. A few hours later, Forest was victorious against Kosciusko by defeating the Whippets 4-2.

Robin Crowson led all goal scorers by finding the back of the net twice. Emily Ray, Laura Cathryn Brown, Mackenzie Dickerson and Shelby Parker each scored a goal in helping the Lady Whippets to victory. Dickerson and Alyssa Williams assisted on two of the goals. The Lady Whippets had a number of scoring chances, out-shooting the Lady Bobcats 16-9.

The Lady Whippets scored three goals in each half.

“This was a great victory for our team," said head coach Lindsay Dickerson. "To start the season with a victory is just a testimony of the hard work and dedication our team put into this off season.":

The Lady Whippets improved to 2-0 on Thursday, by defeating the West Point Lady Green Wave 2-0.

The Lady Whippets started out with pressure and high energy. Just minutes into the start of the game Dickerson scored her second goal of the season. The Lady Whippets continued to pressure the West Point defense with a total of 23 shots in the game. The West Point Goalie played a great game, compiling 21 saves on the night.

Cassandra Cobb was able to beat the goalie to the far corner of the goal for her first goal of the season. The Lady Whippets went into half with a 2-0 led.

The second half saw a little more fight out of the Lady Green Wave team. The Lady Whippets were unable to add to their score, but only allowed the Green Wave five shots all night.

“We played a good game, however we did not play a complete Kosciusko Lady Whippets soccer game”, said KHS assistant coach Greg Cooper. “We must stay focused and play our game. We allowed the Lady Green Wave to dictate the second half. And that we can not let happen.”

The Lady Whippets dropped a 5-1 decision to Neshoba Central on Friday, while the boys team took the victory.
