French Camp rolls past Noxapater

By Austin Bishop

The homestanding French Camp Academy Panthers used a bruising running game, as well as an effective passing attack to roll past homestanding Noxapater High School 42-14 on Friday night.

The win pushed FCA to 3-3 overall and more importantly 3-2 in Region 3-1A action. The Panthers are one of three teams with just two league losses each and remain in the hunt for one of the region's four playoff spots.

Durant leads Region 3-1A with a 5-0 league mark, while Nanih Waiya and Weir have one loss each and Sebastopol, Ethel and FCA follow with two each.

French Camp, which travels to South Leake on Friday night, jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to a 72-yard scoring pass from Courtney Lucious to Tevon Hollway. Justin Anderson ran in the two-point conversion.

The Panthers hit for 20 second-quarter points to make it 28-0 at the half. FCA opened the second-quarter scoring on an 18-yard pass from Lucious to Hollway and another conversion run by Anderson to make it 16-0.

Then came a 33-yard scoring run by Lucious and a 10-yard touchdown by Anderson.

Noxapater got on the scoreboard on a 1-yard run by quarterback Ethan Hamilton to cut it to 28-6.

French Camp bounced back to score on a 2-yard return of a recovered fumble by Logan Harper and then added a safety because of a penalty against Noxapater in the end zone to go up 36-6 at the end of three quarters of play.

The Tigers scored on an 11-yard run by Josh Drury and a two-point conversion run by Isaac Nunn to make it 36-14. French Camp closed out the scoring with a 38-yard run by Anderson.

Anderson finished the night with 235 yards rushing on 16 carries, while Lucious had nine carries for 105 yards. French Camp averaged more than 10 yards a carry as a team, picking up 366 yards on 34 attempts.

Lucious hit on 5-of-6 passes for 185 yards, with Hollway making three catches for 135 yards.
