Lady Tigers get second wind to draw even on the year

From submitted reports

The The Ethel Lady Tigers last six softball games have been much like our weather — sunny or stormy — no in between.

The Lady Tigers dropped their first three division contests to McAdams (15-5), Nanih Waiya (12-1) and East Webster (13-1) by a combined score of 40-7 with 38 of the runs being unearned due to 29 errors.

“It’s been feast or famine for us lately,” said EHS coach Chris Terry. “We’ve been struggling in the field and we’ve had a hard time stringing hits together at the plate. But, we kept our col, stayed positive, and weathered the storm.”

The Lady Tigers got back on the winning side when they swept French Camp in a division doubleheader on Thursday. The first game was won 14-2 and they took the second game 18-2.

These two wins got the Lady Tigers to 5-6 overall and 2-3 in division play. The lady Tigers’ bats finally got hot by banging out 41 hits in the doubleheader victory.

“We finally hit the ball well for an entire game, and we only made five errors in the doubleheader.”

Dominique Ferguson was 5-for-5 in the doubleheader with a homer, while Myronice Alston had four hits and a homer and Tiera Merrill had five hits. Christie Steed banked out four hits, including a pair of triples, while Morgan Adcock had three singles and a double.

Ethel then took a 5-3 win over McAdams to move to 6-6 overall and 3-3 in region play.

Ethel scored four runs in the top of the first inning and then held off a McAdams rally to take the win.

“This win got us back to .500 overall and most importantly in district play,” Terry said. “This was a big win for us since McAdams really beat up on us at home a few weeks ago.”

Ferguson, Adcock and Odom had two hits each for the winners, while Alston blasted a two-run homer in the first inning.
