Andrea Rosamond singled to right field to score Kayla Bain in the bottom of the ninth to give Ethel an exciting 8-7 extra-inning win over visiting Edinburg High School on Thursday.
The win was the first of the year for the Lady Tigers, who were 1-2 going into Tuesday’s re-match with the Lady Eagles in Edinburg.
“We are excited about getting our first win of the year and I hope it will show the girls that they are capable of winning,” said EHS head coach Chris Terry. “We battled through an error-filled fourth inning and played error free for the next five innings.”
The game was tied 3-3 going into the top of the fourth when Edinburg hit for those four runs. But Ethel bounced back for four in the bottom of the fifth and the game settled into a defensive battle from that point.
Christi Steed drove in one run with a double and then scored on a single by Myronice Alston in the bottom of the first to put the Lady Tigers up 2-1. After falling behind 3-2, Ethel tied the game in the bottom of the third when Alston singled in Juliya Erving who had reached on a single of her own.
The four-run fifth was highlighted by a two-run homer by Rosamond and a two-run single by Lindsey McNeal.
Rosamond finished the night with three hits, two runs scored and three RBIs, while Steed, Alston, Morgan Adcock, Leslie Odom and Erving had two hits each.
After facing Edinburg on Tuesday the Lady Tigers were set to host Noxapater on Thursday and visit J.Z. George on Friday.
The first district game will be on the road against French Camp on Monday, Aug. 25.
