Lady Whippets move to 11-1 in summer softball action

The Kosciusko High School summer softball team moved its record to 11-1 last week by picking up three wins in play at the Starkville Sports Complex.

On Monday, June 22 Kosciusko defeated the Louisville All-Stars 7-0 and then Followed that up with a 16-0 win over Starkville Academy #2.

Last Friday the Lady Whippets dropped their first game of the summer, losing 2-1 to East Webster before bouncing back with a 9-0 win over Starkville.

Kaitlin Young struck out 11 and allowed just one hit in five innings of work in the win over Louisville, while also banging out a single and double and knocking in a run.

Allison Ray had an RBI triple for Kosy, while Katie Ferguson had a single and two RBIs. Scoring runs were Lyn Browning, Ferguson, Ray, Jordan Gray, Sarah Plunkett, Coy Ballard and Mackenzie Dickerson.

Ray and Alecia McDaniel combined for a one-hitter in the night-cap win over the Starkville Academy #2. Ray struck out seven in three innings, while McDaniel hurled the last inning.

Ferguson tripled and drove in three runs for the winners, while Young had a triple, RBI and scored twice. Dickerson doubled, drove in two runs and scored for KHS, ,while Ballard singled, drove in a pair of runs and scored twice.

McDaniel scored three times for the winners, while Lauren Tharp and Miranda Lindsey scored twice and Browning, Dickerson, Jena Mann, Plunkett and Gray each scored once.

Young pitched a strong game against East Webster in a game the Lady Whippets dropped 2-1. She struck out eight and allowed just three hits and three walks in the game.

Ferguson tripled and was singled in by Ray for Kosy's lone run.

In the 9-0 win over Starkville, Ray struck out eight and allowed just three hits.

Ferguson smacked a double and drove in three runs, while Haleigh Warren singled and drove in a run.

Dickerson and Mann scored two times each for KHS, while Ferguson, Young, Plunkett, Ballard and Warren each scored as well.
