Weir wins boys Class 1A track championship; Young McAdams finishes third in girls

Weir High School boys used a solid team effort to win the MHSAA Class 1A State Track Meet held at Pearl on Saturday, while the young Lady Bulldogs of McAdams finished third in the girl’s event.
“I think we have a really bright future,” said McAdams head track coach Kenyon Ross. “If we can just stay together and keep running we should do well. We are very, very young.”
On the boys side of things Weir totaled 61 points to finish 11 points ahead of Mound Bayou Kennedy. McAdams was ninth in the boys with 28 points, while Thomastown was 11th with 25 and French Camp picked up four points to tie for 25th.
McAdams picked up 58 points to finish third in the girls division, while Myrtle won the title with a whopping 104 points. Pisgah was second with 91. Weir scored 19 points to place 11th, while Thomastown was 16th with eight points and French Champ tied for 17th with four points.
Weir’s Johnathan Brown won the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 42.02, while finishing fourth in the 110 meter hurdles. Also taking a first place was McAdams’ Patrick Lewis with a time of 5:00.46 in the 1600 meter run.
Weir’s Terrance Baber was second in the 400 meter dash and fifth in the 100 meter dash, while teammates Paul Middleton and Rico Glass were third and fourth in the shot put. The Weir relay teams finished third in the 4x100, sixth in the 4x200 and fifth in the 4x400, while Cramer Miller was third in the long jump.
McAdams eighth-grader Kenderio Gilmore was second in the 3200 meter run and eighth in the 1600, while French Camp’s Bengali Sillah, a freshman, was fifth in the 3200. McAdams teammates Patrick Lewis and Nicoe Roby were fifth and sixth in 800 meter run, while Rock Miller of Weir was seventh. Lewis was also seventh in the triple jump.
On the girls’ side of the ledger, Kimberly Lewis of McAdams won the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 46.94, and took second in the 100 meter hurdles.
McAdams twin sisters Dierra and Kierra Gilmore finished third and fourth in the 3200 meter run, while Lauren Jones of French Camp was fifth. Kierra Gilmore was third in the 1600 meter run, while Dierra finished fourth.
Kierra Gilmore was second in the 800 meter run, while Weir’s India Carter was sixth. Andrea Carter of Weir was fifth in the 100 meter dash and eighth in the 200 meter dash. Precious Ellington of McAdams was fifth in the 400 meter dash, while Briana Baber finishing seventh in the 300 meter hurdles and Lashanna Evans of Weir taking seventh in the discus throws. Andrea Carter was eighth in the triple jump while the McAdams 4x400 relay team took third.
