The McAdams girls and Weir Boys will roll into this Saturday’s MHSAA Class 1A State Track Meet at Pearl with high hopes.
The Weir boys finished second in last weekend’s South State 1A Meet at St. Andrew’s just 10 points behind champion Pisgah, while the Pisgah girls finished 39 points ahead of second-place McAdams.
But when it came to the long distance events, nobody could keep pace with the McAdams girls.
Dierra and Kierra Gilmore, both sophomores, finished first and second in both the 3200 and 1600 meter runs, while Kierra also won the 800 meter event.
In the 3200 Dierra Gilmore posted a winning time of 13:28.53, while Kierra was second at 13:30.30. Leuten Jones of French Camp was fourth. Dierra’s time in the 1600 was 6:15.43, while Kierra had a 6:16.02.
In the 800 meter run Kierra Gilmore posted a 2:41.06. Weir’s India Carter finished fourth.
McAdams’ Precious Ellington was first in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:02.75. Weir’s Andrea Carter was second in the 100 meter, while Kim Lewis of McAdams was fourth. Carter was third in the 200 meter dash, while Lewis was second in the 100 meter hurdles.
Lewis won the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 47.41, while Briana Baber of Weir, a seventh grader, finished fourth. The McAdams 4x400 relay team of the Gilmores, Ellington and Keneasha Phillips took first place, while the Weir 4x100 team finished third.
Weir’s Carter took fourth in the triple jump, while Lashonna Evans of Weir was fourth in the discus throw.
On the boys side of things Terrance Baber of Weir won the 400 meter dash with a time of 52.28, while McAdams’ Patrick Lewis was first in the 800 meter run with a clocking of 2:32.54. Teammate Micoe Roby was second, while Rick Miller of Weir was fourth.
Baber finished third in the 100 and 200 meter dashes, while Lewis of McAdams was first in the 1600 meter run. Kenderia Gilmore of McAdams was fourth.
Bangali Sillah of French Camp was second in the 3200, while Gilmore was third.
Weir’s Jonathan Brown was the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 43.01, while he finished second in the 110 meter hurdles.
Weir’s 4x400 and relay team finished second, while the 4x100 and 4x200 teams each finished third.
Paul Middleton of Weir won the shot put with a toss of 40-08, while teammate Rico Glass was second. Cramer Miller of Weir was third in the triple jump.
