McAdams girls, Weir boys win region track meets

The McAdams girls and Weir boys rolled to the Region 1A Track Meet championships last week.

The Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs of McAdams each qualified for 11 out of 16 events for the South State Track Meet which is set for St. Andrews near Jackson on Saturday.

The Weir boys totaled 126 points to win the region title, while Noxapater was second with 99 and McAdams third with 91. On the girls side, McAdams led the way with 122, followed by South Leak with 100 and Weir with 82.

The McAdams girls were dominant in the distance runs, winning the 400, 800, 1600 and 3200 events, as well as both hurdles competitions.

Kierra and Dierra Gilmore doubled up as the top two finishers in both 1600 and 3200 meter events. Kierra Gilmore won the 3200 with a tie of 13:30, while Dierra Gilmore was at 13:31. In the 1600 it was even closer as Kierra Gilmore won with a 6:18.57, with Dierra Gilmore right behind with a 6:18.80.

McAdams’ Kimberly Lewis won the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 17.67, then took the 300 meter hurdles with a clocking of 51.72.

Kierra Gilmore also won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:47.02, 34 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Precious Ellington of McAdams won the 400-yard dash with a 1:07.93.

Weir’s Andrea Carter won the 100 meter dash with a 13.48 and the 200 meters in 28.38.

The McAdams girls won the 4x400 meter relay and finished second in the 4x100 and 4x200.

In boys action, Patrick Lewis of McAdams won the 1600 meter run with a 5:19.04 and the 800 with a 2:17.

Weir’s Terrance Baber easily won the 400 meter dash in a time of 53.29, while Johnathan Brown of Weir won the 300 meter hurdles in a time of 45.83. Weir also won the 4x100 and 4x400 relay events.

Weir’s Paul Middleton finished first in the shot put with a toss of 43-05.
