Kosy’s Wiggers inks with Holmes

KOSCIUSKO Holmes Community College softball coach Rick Casey made it a priority to sign the best players in his area when he took over the struggling softball program.

It seems like Casey is making some headway in that area.

Casey inked Kosciusko’s Katie Wiggers to come play softball for the Lady Bulldogs, making her the second Lady Whippet (Casey Ables) to sign with Holmes this season.

Casey was all smiles Thursday morning as Wiggers signed on the bottom line after hitting .433 last year for coach Tony Terry.

“She’s got a good bat and a good arm and will be an asset to our program,” Casey said. “She’ll probably play one of the corner outfield positions for us next year. We’re just glad to have here.”

Casey just completed his second season at Holmes and the Lady Bulldogs went 7-35 with a mainly freshman team, Casey’s first recruiting class.

“I’ve made it a priority to get the good players out of our district,” Casey said. “That hasn’t always been the case here. But we brought in 15 freshman last year and basically played with them this year. We won’t bring them all back this year for various reasons but we’re looking forward to next year. I think Katie and Casey can really help us.”

For Kosciusko coach Tony Terry, he was glad to see another of his seniors sign. Wiggers helped the Lady Whippets to a 21-6 record as she hit .433 and drove in 20 runs and also had seven doubles while hitting in the No. 3 hole.

“Katie has bee a huge part of our program the last four years,” Terry said. “She has been with me every since I’ve been here and has been an asset to our program.”
