Kosy closes out on road this week

By Austin Bishop

The Whippets and Lady Whippets of Kosciusko High School close out the basketball regular season this week with a trio of road games.

After visiting Starkville on Tuesday, Kosy travels to Houston on Thursday for a Region 4-4A make-up game that was postponed due to bad weather earlier this month. KHS then visits Neshoba Central on Friday, before getting ready to take part in the Region 4-4A Tournament that will be hosted by Caledonia High School beginning on Feb. 9.

The Whippets improved their record to 13-7 on the season with a convincing road win over Caledonia on Friday.

Kosy held a somewhat comfortable 17-10 lead after one quarter of play, but dominated the Confederates in the second and fourth quarters to roll to the 70-28 win.

Tre Boyd led the Whippets with 11 points, while Jermaine Harris and Patrick Adams scored eight points each, Cary Dotson picked up seven and Jeremy Rayford and Jamari Roby scored six each.

The Lady Whippets, now 16-6 on the year, outscored Caledonia 22-9 in the second quarter to take a 35-17 lead on the way to a 63-34 victory. Jessica Miles had 16 points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots for KHS, while Cassiana Primer had 13 points, eight assists and six steals. Kurlysha Bell scored 12 points and claimed 13 rebounds, while Symone Gregory had 10 points and four steals.

The Lady Whippets dropped a heart-breaking 78-76 double-overtime decision to homestanding Noxubee County last Tuesday to see their seven-game winning streak snapped.

Miles scored 29 points for KHS, including hitting 11-of-13 free throws. Bell had 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Jasmine Harris had 10 boards and Miles nine.

The Kosy boys, now 12-7 on the season, saw their four-game winning streak snapped with a 82-67 loss to Noxubee County. Earl Barksdale and Boyd scored 21 points each for the Whippets, while Rayford had eight.
